Erase history from Internet Explorer

Hi, Quick question:

I opened a link on an email that was sent me to me before realising the link was taking me to an unsavoury site.. I tried to erase my history so that it would be gone from my address bar

I have tried to clear my history on IE version 6 - i have gone to tools -> options -> delete cookies, delete files and clear history

everything is erased as i want except for this one site's url that keeps coming up (due to autocomplete) as soon as i press the letter g

the site that comes up is http:galleries.xxx (and something after that) and ends in a .mpg

how can i get rid of this - any ideas?

thanks in advance

  • Hi.

Firstly, click start > Run and type regedit

    hit enter.

select - My Computer - and select File > Export - enter a name (just to be safe, we're backing up)

You will get the registry explorer. now press f3 and search for the file you keep getting. if its in there - delete the entry - (right click - delete)

Search thru untill you hit the end of the registry. Reboot the pc.

Log back on, and research the registry. This should now be clear of the file.

Now see if you get the same file appear.

    Hope this helps!

You can clear the AutoComplete 'memory' in IE like this:

    Tools> Internet Options...
Click Content Tab, then AutoComplete button, then 'Clear Forms' button.
