Hi

I wonder if anybody can give me any ideas.

My partner and I are getting married in London at a register office in September. We will have no guests other than our two best friends as witnesses. The following weekend we are having a blessing in Yorkshire (where I live) and would like to have a party afterwards. This is where my problem is!! I have emailed loads of local hotels and had quotes of everything from free room hire and £7.50 per head up to £1500 room hire and £25.00 per head. Now is it just me or does that seem excessive. Are they quoting these prices because they see it as a 'wedding' or would it cost that much if it were for a birthday party? We're not having a formal reception and would like to invite maybe about 120 people so even at £7.50 per head it works out much more than we can afford. I have thought of a hall and caterers, but am looking to see if anybody can give me idea! All gratefully received!

A lot of venues do put on a whole package for you, and do tend to charge this amount, wedding or no wedding.

If you are looking to reduce costs, you might want to find somewhere for hire of the rooms only and then bring in your own catering company, it might be cheaper that way.

Can you get a tel no of a library in area as tehy may have contact names/numbers for local village halls or church rooms you could hire? You could do your own thing with food/drink, then?
