Have I got anything to lose by asking him to dispute this? Will I get any bad marks etc? Surely if I offer him something and I have photos etc then paypal can't go all in his favour. Do I have to refund his postage either way? From me to him and him to me?

I know from personal experience that proof, photos, etc. means nothing to paypal. All they care about is getting their money and closing disputes asap. They'll take the money back before you've even emailed them!

You could try offering something as a compromise. My guess is, that was his plan all along - to use you as a free hire shop.

Some people are just rotten I'm afraid.

Paypal won't care in this case.
  • Are you sure they sent back the one you sent and not just swapped it for an old one they already had?

What would happen if the OP removed the funds from her Paypal account and removed the link to a credit card/bank account

Paypal would chase the OP for payment using a debt collector if she just removed the details.

Yes he sent it by recorded delivery.

I thought something was up when he took his time to contact me to send it back. He had it a week before he returned it. I have emailed paypal - is there any way I can contact ebay for advice. I can't find anything on the help. I would love to open a dispute against him but can't. I haven't mailed him yet to say I have received it but am tempted to tell him to open a dispute against me.

Do I have to refund him the postage each way?

    Thanks

I might be wrong but I think if you force him to open a dispute to get his refund you will lose for sure as he can prove he has sent the item back.
You don't have to refund the return postage though so if he has scammed you he has lost out.
Bear in mind though if you are bothered about feedback scores he can leave you anything he likes whilst you can leave nothing but a positive.

Personally I'd refund him, block him and move on.

It's such a shame you can't just ask if the kid enjoyed the fancy dress party!

There is nothing you can do.

I had this before, with selling a pair of jeans. The buyer returned it to me in a disgusting condition.

Paypal will be on their side as long as they have tracking of the return parcel.
