Climbing Ben Nevis for Alzheimer's Society

My brother and I are taking part in a climb of Ben Nevis in September for the Alzheimer's Society - our Granddad died last December after having dementia for 6 years and we are doing the climb in his memory.
We have to raise a minimum of £1,000 between the two of us and have come up with some ideas..
1. Charity auction - ask companies to donate items and then ask people for bids
2. Stall at local show - tombola, bric-a-brac
3. Car boot sales etc.
4. Raffle at work.
We are struggling to raise the money though - does anyone have any advice on companies to try for donations of products - or if does anyone have any other ideas for fundraising activties?
Thanks very much!

Good luck to you both -it's a lot of money though.
Try companies with a local link for donations, if you know any. For example Vax are based near us and used to give out small raffle items for local good causes.
Check the raffle/lottery rules though - I have a feeling you may need some sort of permit depending on how you plan to run it. If you can't get items to raffle have you got friends you could bully into volunteering an hour or two of their time - babysitting, diy, that sort of thing, and raffle them off. (Or any good looking friend you could raffle off as chippendales.:D)
Car boots - if you can take proof you are fundraising for charity some of them will waive the fee.
An item in the local paper - lots of people do this, so you might need to think of an angle that will make yours stand out. Maybe offering your services in various things for a donation to the cause? Or doing a charity car wash, if you can find somewhere good to do it?
I'm terrible at fund raising, so with any luck someone else will be along with some helpful suggestions.
Edit - Something else I've heard of is giving people smartie/mini egg tubes and asking them to put their loose change into over a period of time. It may only be coppers and small change, but if you can persuade enough people to give it a go it could add up.
What about putting a wanted request on freecycle for any gifts that people could donate to your raffle? If you make it clear it's to sell on for a good cause, it shouldn't cause any offence. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Can you ask your work if you can do a dress down day every Friday for £1 and put that towards your fundraising? Cake bakes and sales in the office are also always popular here, we've raised a couple of hundred pounds in one go at times when we've done that!!
How about a bonus ball comp - sell a number for £1 each week; you keep half the money and the person with the bonus ball number from the lottery gets the other half. Small amounts each time but they do add up quickly after a while, especially if you have until September?
If you're gardeners, maybe you could take some cuttings off your plants and sell those? Freecycle is always fab for little plant pots and things - you may even find that people hae plants they'd be willing to give cuttings of?
I'll see if I can think of anything else........I'll be back!!
