Although the name originates from a section of the Nigerian criminal code, the name is used the world over and has been for some time...0 -

thanks, i have tried to email natwest but the only email address i could lay my hands on was the phising@natwest.com and customer service email.naijapower wrote: »To dispute or query any CIFAS marker, You need to contact the provider/lender who registered the CIFAS. I know you have tried ceaselessly but they are the only ones that can help. If no joy, consider making a formal complaint addressed to the Chief Executive and copy all heads/directors. This definitely works..tried and tested
if n e one has any other contact details for natwest that can get this sorted for me it will be great.

agreed. this insidence has not financially affected me immediately in any way but it sure has ion the long run.
as there is no loss of mony from my part, just a black mark on the credit report and this is causing a lof of grief when approaching companies for a small thing like a mobile contract even.0 -
this will sound really dumb on my part. but what will the fraudster do with this accout that he/she opened (and got caught)
i know i sound naive, but i really dont know what it can be used for (or against)
what DO fraudsters do when they open fake accounts on other people's names? cause the accounts are not interlinked, they cant get access to other accounts, or can they?
what is it all about.
why do they do it?
and what is a 419 (nigerian fraud on google but no clarifications)0 -

Hi
My OH was a victim of ID Fraud last year - a pain to sort out! The people who took his ID mainly got credit cards (stole his ID via post and then stole issued cards - psot office workers involved) but they did open a Nat West bank account - we found out they paid in 1000K for two months (pretending it was salary) to access an overdraft facility...and then took the cash. The account needed ID so God knows how they did this - always been worried they faked a driving licence, too!
I've posted under credit cards forum about our story, so won't repeat here, but it IS a real pain - some banks were great, Barclays were dreadful and credit ref agencies were ok to be fair...but it did take about 4 months to get credit files updated.0 -

Their goal is to set up lending facilities, take the cash, and run. This leaves you saddled with a debt that you didn't run up.and what is a 419 (nigerian fraud on google but no clarifications)
The first result on Google is for Wikipedia's page on Advance fee fraud. Looks like a pretty in-depth clarification to me?0 -
When we opened a bank account in malaysia recently the bank took our thumbprints and when we go in to do anything regarding the account our thumbprints are checked.0

thank you every one for the wonderful support and tips.
i called up natwest twice and the lady was very helpful, she told me that it should be filed on your credit report as "id theft" and not "first party fraud". and also told me that natwest will get back to me for further clarification. - this has not happened, so calling them up again to see if all is well.
thanks again guys.
cheers
