I opened an ING savings account after Martin posted about the new savings account customers getting £20 for opening a new account. All went well, account opened, £20 got.
A short while later, I decided to open further accounts so I could have seperate savings 'pots' if you like, rather than having the money we were saving for various things, in one lump.
Within half an hour of opening the extra accounts, it dawned on me the rate of interest for subsequent saving accounts was a lot less than for the first, so I phoned and explained my mistake and asked them to close the ones I'd only just opened.
The bloke said it wasn't a problem and he'd close the accounts immediately but when he tried he was only able to close one there and then but he said the other one wasn't able to be closed on his system for some reason and would have to be passed to another department. Found out today (a week later) not only has the account not been closed, they have just taken a hundred quid out of my external current account making it overdrawn.
I was annoyed but it's not the end of the world as the account was only overdrawn by a few hours ( I moved money straight away to put account back into credit). However, after calling again, I now find out that I can't get my money back until the 18th April. I then asked if the money could just be transferred into my mortgage as soon as the 3 day hold cleared to save time...at least that way I would be getting some sort of benefit from it quicker. Nope...if I wanted that done I'd have to phone on the 15th to arrange it. Annoyance has now become anger..
Why on earth do people not do their jobs properly in the first place? Computers can only be blamed for so much.

Sorry to hear about your problems.
Just wanted to hijack this thread to say thanks to Martin! I opened the account and got my £20! - not bad for 5 minutes online and the cost of a stamp!:D

Update: I asked ING during the phone call if I could get my external bank to reverse the DD since it was taken in error. They said that wasn't possible. I've just come off the phone to my external bank, the DD has been cancelled, the money recalled and it will be back in my account tomorrow.
Do ING have different banking rules I wonder. :rolleyes:Herman - MP for all!0
