How do I set up my ethernet adaptor ?

I am trying to set up a Linskys WAG354G wireless gateway to my Tosh satellite 1900. Connected all the cables up and then it says in the book, "Note: If your PCs Ethernet adaptor is not set up, refer to the Ethernet adaptor's user guide for more information" Can anybody tell me where the Ethernet adaptor's user guide is please ? I have looked on the router software with no success and also in the Tosh support with the same result.
Is there anywhere in windows (XP & S.P. 2) where I can look to see if it is set up and if it is not, it will tell me how to set it up ?
Many thanks, I'm only on the first stage yet, I think that it's going to be a long night !

Click start, settings, control panel, network connections.
Do you see a Local Area Connection Icon? 2 blue screens?0 -
Found it, it says network cable unplugged, Intel(R) PRO100 VE Network Connection and there's a big red cross by it. I presume it's not as simple as just plugging the network cable in is it ?0

it is as simple. It's reconising that there's nothing in it, plug the cable into and into your router and you should see some action from it.0

I'm 3 parts the way there now, both laptops can connect to the web via ethernet, my Tosh can (wrelessly via the notebook adaptor) but I'm having a bit of trouble connecting my Fujitsu Siemens V2040. It said on the tin when I bought it that it was wireless enabled but I can't seem to activate the wireless bit. It will work wirelessly if I put the Linskys adaptor in it but I need that for my Tosh which is not wireless enabled. The easiest thing for me to do would be to BUY another adaptor but...... I have looked at windows help and support but I am travelling in ever decreasing circles. Can anybody explain to me in MSE-speak please what I need to do ?0

start > settings > network connections.
Under Lan options you should have a wireless connection showing. If you have make sure it's not disabled. Right click it and enable it.0 -
On the Fujitsu Siemens V2040 you have to press the Fn + F10 keys to enable the wireless LAN module. When it is enabled the wireless LAN indicator lights up.0

I thank you
My laptop thanks you
My daughter thanks you
Her laptop thanks you
Especially to Chippy who put me in the picture about the Fn + F10 job.
I'm going to recommend you all for the payment of a constant attendance allowance for the last couple of weeks.0
