help! car insurance claim

my car was damaged by workmen a couple of weeks ago who admitted full liabiliy and their insurers were dealing with the repairs. I seem to have been the innocent party in a line of mess ups.

My insurance company adviced me not to put the claim through them as the other person had admitted full liability.
I dealt direct with the other persons insurance company, car was taken to garage and work commenced on car. Then when work is half completed the insurance company dispute the damage although the work has commenced and evidence now clearly gone! They're refusing to pay for work and repairers are refusing to release the car to me. In the meantime it looks like they may take the courtesy car back as his insurance are saying it is resolved as far as they're concerned.
I am left with a car with half the paint stripped off, garage refusing to complete work. My insurers have apologised for not getting involved at the beginning and mis-advising me but said they cant now as the damage has been removed.

What do i do? 6 months pregnant, unable to get daughter to nursery and myself to work and no one cares, they're all blaming each other and telling me i have to pay, but simple fact is i cant afford it!

Did you get an estimate for repairs beforehand, or did you take it to their recommended repairer?

If the third party insurers instructed the garage, then the argument is between the garage and them, but if you instructed the garage, then they are rightly under the impression you would be paying for the repairs, and as you cannot afford to, they will obviously want the matter resolved over who will pay their bill before spending any more on your car.

Clarify with the garage if they got instructions from the insurer.
