Why is it a rip-off charge? If they wish to reduce the amount of people dropping off/picking up at the front door, then it seems to be quite a sensible policy. You don't have to fly from Luton anyway. There's a free bus service alternative available - no-one is mandating that you drive to the front door.

As always - it's a loophole when it benefits you (the barrier being broken!) - but a scam when it goes against you (having to pay!).

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

    they do this at birmingham:confused:

They do indeed. It was introduced within days of the Glasgow incident. But only those unfamiliar with the place pay it. The sensible thing to do is drop off and pick up at the railway station. From there you simply take the Maglev straight into the terminal, which takes less than 2 minutes. Even the airline VIP limos do this now.

The alternative seems to be what the staff do, and what we have done if the Maglev is closed, 2am to 5am. There is a turnoff on a roundabout where you can be dropped, about 100yds from Terminal 2.

How is charging a pound going to 'reduce the amount of people dropping off / picking up at the front door'? How is 'you don't have to fly from Luton anyway' a helpful suggestion when your flight is from Luton? Of course if Luton Airport wants people to fly from other airports, and therefore lose business, then your points are valid, but only up to a point.

Your only sensible point is about the free bus service - if it is free. I presume that is the one to be placed in the mid-term car park, where ever that is. Clearly I shall have to check their website about that before my wife's next trip.

By the way I have just checked their website and there is no mention of this new arrangement, so I presume it is yet to come into effect.

I use Luton and Stansted on a regular basis both departing and collecting/dropping off. At Stansted there is a charge to collect but not to drop off which I think is more to do with the flow of the drop off area, Luton however has been forced with the threat of terrorism been forced to move from its front drop off point to the the further away drop away area which was previously part of the short stay car park iiirc !
Even though there is a limit pre £1 charge cars were still over staying there time and causing hold ups by stopping a little longer then when ushered along by the warden going out taking a spin round the roundabout and returning. It is quite easy nowdays for someone to to make a call a call and say they are cleared customs make the phone call to there collection driver (if you dont have a mobile there are a few public phones in the terminal and I am sure 99% of all drivers have a mobile). There are plenty of areas withign 5 minutes drive of the airport to park up and await that call ! failing that there is a FREE shuttle bus from the airport terminal to Luton parkway station. </SPAN>Buses leave the terminal every 10-15 mins during the day and once or twice an hour between midnight and 0530.

So you can save your £1 but maybe have a 20 minute delay :rotfl:

Luton Airport has shelved plans to charge drivers £1 to drop passengers off at the terminal.

It is now in force. So much for accurate news!

It actually works quite well as you have 1 hour free parking at the mid term carpark giving you plenty of time to take the free shuttle bus, say goodbye at the airport and get back to your car.
