Try googling vegan cake recipes - gold mine for you!
I know you can get rice milk and almond milk . I have something about it in a detox cookbook, ill look in it and see if there is anything for you
The vegan cake recipes sounds like just what I need though. Will have a look. Thanks a lot for that. I have just tried rice milk and that's okay as a drink. I think I will try using it for rice pudding.Second purse £101/100

Thanks for the chocholate muffins recipe above, which I shall be trying. And to everyone else with all there other ideas. I am getting there and haven't starved yet in almost two weeks of trying this. Unfortunately, it has also fallen at a time when I am really busy and not had much time even to get on here over the last couple of days to see what people are saying, so sorry for not replying sooner. good luck, Esther. I gave up wheat a few years ago as I was fed up of constant bloating...after a couple of years I reintroduced it but I think it's probably time to cut it out again. The test looks interesting, I'm a bit afraid to do it though as I'm worried about having to change things, if you see what I mean!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

I can't have the cows milk so can't make the buttermilk by trying that.

Yes , i know. SOmeone already pulled me up on that on previous page. I meant you could try and curdle your dairy alternative, the same way you would curdle normal milk? Result = possible dairy free buttermilk?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Will try the buttermilk thing with soya and see what happens.
I had a 30 minute consultation over the 'phone with a dietician or nutritionist (can't remember which and dont really know if there is a difference) she mentioned that I could see someone privately, didn't know that you could get referred from the GP though. The information that came with the test results did say to discuss them with my GP, it's just finding the time to do it and I'm hoping to get away on holiday next week so maybe when I come back... TBH after a number of visits re stomach pains and bloating and trying various forms of IBS tablets and then having to listen to them saying 'and that one didn't work either...' like I was making it up, I just decided to live with it. Then a couple of years on decided to have a go at this test. Not sure whether the GP would approve. Everybody in our area seems to have problems with GP's so don't want to change and jump out of the frying pan into the fire. Sorry for rambling on. Thank you all for your help and support.

I know what you mean, but I thought that wheat was one of the things with me, because after white bread I was terrible, wholemeal was much better. It turned out to be yeast. I had been putting off doing it because I didn't want to cut anything out and didn't want to spend a fortune on special products etc. etc. etc. Now I am finding that it isn't too bad, but I really do miss bread. That's why I wanted to try soda bread. Crispbreads aren't the same and lunches are probably the most difficult to replace. It could be that something else you are intolerant to, that you don't know about, could be reacting with the wheat and if you knew what that was and could cut it out, then after a time the wheat may not be as bad. It's maybe worth thinking about.
Have worked out that it's okay to have Twinks Hobnobs so my family are very pleased as I have made a couple of batches this week.Second purse £101/100

I don't understand. If it was the yeast, why didn't eating wholemeal bread make you as bad as white bread?0

doesn't wholemeal bread have less yeast?
OP let me know if the curdling works, would be interested to know. Have you made any nice vegan cakes then?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I use the same amount of yeast for wholemeal bread as I do for white.0

Sorry, haven't had time to come on and check/answer since Saturday. I haven't tried any recipes yet except that I have made Twinks hobnobs (don't know if I already said that before) which ofcourse all the family love.
How much lemon juice do I use to curdle the milk? Would it just be a tablespoon full? I bought some breadflour today to try out.
I don't know why the reaction to the wholemeal bread was different to the white if it was the yeast. I was puzzled by that. The dietician didn't know but thought it could be that wholemeal slowed down the time it took whereas with the white the reaction was a lot quicker so that I could link it, if you see what I mean. Like they say that refined carbs give you a quick high and followed by a slump but unrefined give a more gradual sustained release of energy. She also said that it could be extra added preservatives in the white. Must admit that I haven't been as bad since I started cutting everything out. So it's helping.
Spent a long time reading labels in supermarket as we're going away, self catering at weekend. That's the next challenge.Second purse £101/100
