pre-existing illness travel insurance

at the moment i have a basic pretty good travel insurance with free spirit, it is an annual, multi trip, europe and rest of world for me and my son offering all the basics. i have now found out that i will need to include pre-existing illness cover as i have a back condition that i had a spinal fusion op on. i have looked everywhere and its looking as though i mmay have to pay something like an additional £400 i hate the idea of having to pay so much when somehow the insurance people seem to wrangle out of paying for a claim. last year my bag was delayed and when it did turn up it was missing £300 worth of goods when i tried claiming and i was told to read small print that says you are not covered if bag is not in your possession when the theft takes place and as it happened somewhere between handing bag over to check in and me receiving it at hotel 2 days later it had not been in my possession. so that cover was really good. dont want to spend all this money and find myself in same position. is this the normal amount for having a bad back????

If your with Free Spirit I assume you have other existing conditions, when they look at whether or not to charge more and how much they look at the overall picture of your health so its difficult to say.

If say you have a heart problem a good place to try would be the Heart Association etc etc so have a word with any patient associations for any of your conditions.

With regard to your hand bag its a common exclusion with travel insurance, you could however possibly claim it off your home insurance. If you want to claim you could probably still claim providing it was reported to the police

try travel insurance web - they have 20% CB via Quidco...they are part of Columbus group - so worth getting quote from each of them but note the cover schedules are very different between the 2 companies.
