Prefix via callchecker tend to change

I've noticed that after printing out 1p/min from Callchecker for Spain, when I look back after a month or so, the numbers have changed slightly. Why is this ? and even so, the what would appear to be the out-dated prefix numbers still work. Why is this? and what about costs, are both the out-dated and current numbers the same price, ie 1p ?

BT's charges for calls to specific 0844 groups (the 5th, 6th and 7th digits determine the charge rate) don't appear to change (e.g. 0844860 is 'g8' - 1p/minute). Their rates are HERE.
AIUI, when these providers want to increase (or decrease) their charges, they just change the 0844 number they use so the caller is charged at a different rate.
Why a provider should change from one 1p/minute number to another is a mystery to me as well.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I wonder if the changes at the same tariff - ie the last 4 numbers - might be about either spreading load of incoming calls across more numbers (seems unlikely to me, but I'm not technical enough to know) or for the providers to gauge the success of their marketing, assess relative numbers of newer and older users etc. I'm only guessing though, and as the older ones work ...0
