Could you post the specifications of your system so the people reading can make more informed recomendations?

i.e. memory size, processor speed etc.

Can you please post more information about your system, memory and processor info, hard drive size etc.

Once you post them we can compare it with the recommended and minimum pecs for XP and tell you exactly what you need to upgrade. :)

Put it this way if you havent upgraded the PC from new you have to upgrade
RAM, Processor and Hard Drive most likely anyway....

    XP Minimum Requirements are

PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended

    • 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

    • 1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*

    • Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor

    • CD-ROM or DVD drive

    • Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

    LOL

More RAM, maybe bigger HDD. CPU should work but running XP on it will put it under alot of load.

I think some1 has put ur RAM into the wrong slot too, surely it should be in slot0 not slot1.

Slot 0 is the primary slot.... it has the factory installed RAM from new on old systems :)

P.S as T4i said it needs alot of upgrading really.. I would buy a new one IMHO

The cost to upgrade this wouldn't be worth it - I'd buy a new one. Why not have a look at the cheap dell laptops?

    £299

    £339

Have to concur with the previous poster about an upgrade probably being cheaper (especially in the long run).

However....an upgrade to 256M would allow you to run XP - and you should be able to pick memory up secondhand quite cheaply.
(think the last one's I sold were about £10 for two 128Ms)

The motherboard only supports Celeron socket 370 processors though so you are limited with the upgrade potential of that.

Given that I saw a local advert for a motherboard, Duron 800 Processor, 256M of Ram and a Geforce Mx440 graphics card for £30 last week you might want to check your local free ads for where someone is selling that sort of setup.

The hard drive isn't worth upgrading at the moment, IMHO, as you are showing you don't actually have that much stored on there.

Another option is of course trying a version of Linux :)
They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.

If I managed to get some parts cheap then would they be easy to install?

    also..Linux..where from? how and why?

    thanks again
