Microsoft office problem

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I should've known better! Anyway, I decided to update windows/office as all the guides say do this periodically.
35 update files, and 9 of them 'failed'. All with error: 0x51F.
Result? m/s exel no longer opens. It tries to 'install' the new update each time I open it and then stops telling me a file is missing: SKU011.cab
I've searched the internet and tried re-installing Office service pack 2, tried Office detect and repair but in both cases they ask for the original CD which I don't have.
Also tried 'Restore', but this also fails as 'SKU011.cab' is missing!!!
Any ideas?

Googling 'SKU011.cab' brings up lots of hits, e.g. http://hkmicc.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/office-2003-sku011cab-problem/0

Thanks Baldur but
1) I don't understand the instructions -
regedit -> [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] -> [SOFTWARE] -> [Microsoft] -> [Office] -> [11.0] -> [Delivery] -> {90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} -> [CDCache] change to [0] …. Done!
2) It seems a lot of people who tried it then got:
error .. 1311: Source file not found: C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\W2561405.CAB.
out of the frying pan....?0 -
That was only one example - have you tried 'Googling', as I suggested?0

You need to open up regedit, you can do this by clicking on start, then
click on Run and type in regedit if using XP, click on Start and type regedit
in box which has start search already typed in it, if you are using Vista.
A box will appear with a list, click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
You will see that this drills down to a list, click on the items in the
instructions that have [ ] round them in the order given, then change the
value in the CACHE section to 0 and save"I may be dead, but I'm still pretty. Which is more than I can say for you."- Buffy (Prophecy Girl)0 -
Yes but I'd kind've hoped on a techie forum I'd get some techie advice/experience.
'Google it' leads me to other techie forums where I could post a query, but I thought I'd start here!0
