Professional government job but manager asking for cash upfront from me!!

Hi Beta
I am a SIA holder, and have worked ( not in security though) for a local authority and have worked alongside the private contractors) I have seen Central London CCTV control room, and I personally do think that level of security could be called a profession, certainly as an SIA holder I take great offence to people who run down the profession. I think it is a vital part of civil order ( on egvery level) and its your SIA holder who generally stops crime ( saw this happen) foil people taking weapons on planes, down to throwing idiots out of nightclubs.
The questions I would ask are:
Where was the job advertised and how did you apply for it
Who is the employer, you can PM me the name if you like.
Im wondering whether actually, if this is true, there might be a dodgy guy, working in a legitimate company/ gov department. We have of course heard of many a local gov employee with thier hands in the tills, in any organisation there can be bad apples? Not having a direct manager above him is a classic part of ripoffmerchants, they dont have people to modify thier behaviour or even notice.
Hi and thanks for your post..
I choose to just ignore the poster who called it 'watching tv' since i wasted enough of my life having pointless arguements on forums,
and tbh untill i saw this setup i wouldnt have known how professional a cctv room could be and so may have thought how they think it is.
Just to clarify, (i cant say much cos of the confidentiality agreement),
but i would love if i was gna get paid to sit watching 4screens all day and just calling the police if a mugging happend on them.
We however have to watch over the entire bourgh, check if police are running any operations that day and where and we then put surveilance on them incase they get into trouble,
we have to look out for muggings, drug deals, thefts, when police want to make arrest they call us to put cams on them incase anything goes wrong.
We have to look to out for known faces that we are trying to buildup a case against, trail them to see what they are doing, may have to go out on foot to trail them even.
Also have to keep track across all the roads, and train stations for any suspicous activity, have to be looking out and preventing any sort of terrorism.
I could go on but im tired and stressed and worried, plus cant say anymore really cos of confidentiallity.
I will pm you though, thanks for helping.

You will need a SIA licence and Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence.0

Ok ive emailed him saying ''I can pay you the £500 deposit by Friday, when would you like me to come in for training next though''.
And i sent it to his work email address which is a .gov one, so if there is any dispute ever like he says in a few weeks or few months ''you're dont have the job cos of overstaffing'',
id atleast have proof about that there was a £500 deposit that i was paying him.
And im gna get it in a cheque and give it to him and see what he says then,
since if he refuses to accept the cheque then il know he is definitely trying to scam me as would be refusing cheque because of the trail it leaves.0 -
:eek: Oooh dear.....well...I'm glad you're at least trying to keep some record of your money and I can see exactly why you're so desperate for this to work out as being a job you can have
- but I have distinct suspicions that this is the last you will see of this "job" - as he will see you havent been 100% taken in by him.
Give him £500 - in cash - no receipts - just trust him......yeh right...what was that phrase about "all pigs fed and ready to fly"???? (as in "I can see pigs flying").0 -
Ok ive emailed him saying ''I can pay you the £500 deposit by Friday, when would you like me to come in for training next though''.
Why are you still interested in this 'job'?
The man who would be your line manager has asked you for £500, without a valid reason for requiring the money, and without any documentation of the transaction. If he keeps the £500, this is theft. If he returns the £500, he may be involved in money laundering. There are no good outcomes here.
He has indicated he does things 'his way' - does that suggest that if there is a disagreement he will do things by the book and allow you to exercise your rights of employment? Are you sure he just won't bully you and/or fire you?
I would walk away and consider contacting the police. It may be hard to get a decent job these days - but this isn't a decent job.0 -
I went for the interview and even though i dont currently have the SIA license that they wanted, that other applicants had,
the boss said he likes me and was willing to give me a chance and that i could train through them and then if i pass the SIA test in a few weeks when i do it i will move straight into a job with them.
It sounds to me be like a blatant bribe to get someone to give him £500 CASH for the job.Why would they turn down people with SIA licences to offer you the job ? No offence but ALL these people would have had enhanced CRB checks.
Also you are not allowed in the control room until you have had an enhanced CRB check regardless of what he says.Actually i think the SIA licensing authority would be very interested in this employer.0 -
Avoid............................ please.:idea:0

I sent him the email and he replied to it, and just said i can come in on friday next to continue training,
and gave me the dates and emailed me a form about the SIA course that he has booked me into.
Im going to pay him by cheque, so theres gna be a trace of the money atleast, plus i have the email about it sent to him where he didnt dispute the £500 deposit or say anything asking me why i am giving him £500 or anything, so he couldnt then have any defense if this did endup with the police.
He makes it sound more like this money is just to make sure that you dont go into the job, muck around and then leave,
as this is his way of making sure that i do take the job seriously.
And while i dont like that at all and would want a normal job with the normal corporate procedures of employment,
i physically canta fford to not take this job as i am extremely close to being homeless already.
So i just cant afford to not take it no matter how risky it is or how bad treated i would be.
This is my 1st job that i will have ever done where im not self-employed, bt instead have a boss and should have things like a pension and be able to get paid eben when i take holidays and stuff like that,
but as ive been self employed for teh last 3years i dont know exactly what i am legally entitled to, and what would just be nice if they give me it..
I know that even my mates wo work in basic jobs like tescos and stuff do get paid to take holiday time off..,
even though they earn on an hourly rate not a set yearly rate.
But i asked 1 of the guys how our pay is worked out and stuff, since theres not a clear rota, its a 24hours operation and so you just work between 8 t 12hours per day, depending on how staffed you are and how much crime there is going on that day.
But your pay is at £9 per hour, and the hours you worked are counted automtically by the system for however many hours you were logged into your work station each day.
But so that means that if i go on 2weeks annual leave, i wont be logged in and so wont get paid anything.

Re holidays - ALL people employed on PAYE are now entitled by law to 28 days paid holiday (ie normally 20 days holiday and the 8 Bank Holidays). If you are PAYE - then he cant dispute that you HAVE to be paid for those days - whatever sort of system he is operating.0
