WMP11 Error Installation

Hello All.
I've been trying to uddate my Windows Media Player to version 11 as I need this to allow video transfers to my new Sony Walkman.
I keep getting an error message on installation as it gets to a 100% - now when I try and open up WMP it tries to open version 11 and fails
I've updated windows XP completely and am at a miss to fix this - any help appreciated!!!
