Hey,
Can anyone tell me if the natwest student account is any good. I need to open a student account for september and heard that this account also offers a free 16-25 railcard for 5 years in which I need and would help alot. However, when reading through the details of the account, it mentions that they charge £5 for copies of statements. Is this normal?? Any advice would help alot
Thanks

Normal nowadays for £5 charge. Banks are going internet only to save on costs.
If you open a student account now you won't get a student railcard, the promotion only runs through summer and beginning of autumn.0 -
Obviously you'd still received a monthly/quarterly statement - it is only extra copies that cost £5.0

Halifax win by far in terms of the overdraft, giving up to £3000 even in year one. They don't really offer any other further incentives though.
Wait until summer to decide properly, because then the NatWest Railcard offer will be available. Something else you might want to bear in mind - Abbey offer £50 just for opening the account.
All have internet banking so there's no problem in accessing your account.
So the choice is yours... or do what I did and open all 3!0 -
The railcard isn't available if you apply at this time of year for the natwest account, you have to apply during their summer campaign.Kavanne

I know its been pointed out its £5 if you want extra copies but it is £5 per order not per statemnet so if you need 1 years worth then its £5 and the same if you want 1 month its £5. As above do not open the account until the campaign starts or you won't get railcard.0

In my experience this was a great account. It didn't give me a major overdraft like Halifax, stopping me getting into serious debt, and then when I graduated, I got 3 years interest free to pay back the overdraft, and they even turned it into an interest free loan to help me pay it back before paying interest. Plus they gave me a full switch card at 17 which was brilliant at the time.0

TBH this account is brilliant and (i may get slated - i dont know) Im really pleased with the service i get from Natwest. I have a natwest student account but dont use the overdraft facility (I did however ask them to reduce it from £1250 to £500 just in case of emergency) - Internet banking is great and you can even open savings accounts, ISA (savings I know) over the internet, in branch (which took a day to open and present on my online account) and telephone...
All in all, good service even though my branch does get lengthy queues!0
