I have just had a quote from B&Q for nearly 11k....phew....the bill is itemised and does involve ripping my old kitchen out and installing the high gloss type kitchen with all new gadgets/appliances/fancy lights ect and some plaster work and relocating sockets ,,but i thought this is quite expensive for B&Q,,,what does people think,,,i dont know how much bartering scope you have as they dont seem to be short of business as already they have said there is about a 12 -14 week wait...

hi,
we were quoted £7k for our kitchen, with £3k for fitting ect....
i bought the kitchen from b & Q but got a local kitchen fitter to fit it for us at a cost of £900 and took 3 days .
our freind got b & q to instal her kitchen and she has had nothing but problems with it, doors not on straight, worktop joins wonky, kickboards fell off.0 -
I've said it many a time on this board, but try your local independant dealer. We once had a quote from B&Q, and our local dealer sourced us a better kitchen and a guy to fit it for much less :A0

What is the spec of the units, quantities, worktop
For that kind of price i could supply a 15 unit glendevon cream kitchen with 8m of granite with mid-range appliences and still have a few grand change after fitting
There 50% sale is a con, doubled the prices in december so they can claim there huge discountHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Don't buy your appliances from B&Q. They will be more expensive than using a shopbot for the same appliances.
We were going for the Cooke & Lewis cream gloss kitchen - quote was 5900 with a load of appliances and one length of walnut worktop. Sale ends and the price for just the units is 4600. Take the design to Howdens who bring the Glendevon Cream in at 2040 for the units. We were going to use the B&Q price promise but have the option of wood effect units rather than that yucky white chipboard and the fact that if anything was missing we could just go and collect it from Howdens means that Howdens wins.
Worktops will cost just under 2k for quartz or corian, just over for granite.
Big kitchen too.
Don't use B&Q fitters - aside from being waaay too expensive you don't know who will do it - they aren't all of the same standard, they're just contracted in. You need a recommendation to be a happy moneysaver.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

A few years ago a friend had a quote off b&q but ended up going through howdens, he said the units & worktops where a cheaper sturdy good product compared to b&q's & he got a local installer to fit.
It saved a couple of thousand pounds & has had no comebacks since0 -
howdens are quality kitchens, do they sell to the public now? as you used to have to be a tradesman or have an account with them to buy.0

the cost of a kitchen involves typically 5 areas - kitchen cabinetry/appliances/labour to fit/worktop/ancillary labour.
without seeing ur plan or what your kitchen is like i would say the typical prices would be:
1. cabinetry £3-6K
2. appliances ~£1.5K
3. labour ~£1.5k
4. worktop laminate £150 wood £1000 granite £2500
5 ancillary labour - totally depends
£8-12k is always what they come to. However the national companies will charge u £12k just to supply and fit the kitchen - no extra building so u will have to complete the project urself and they will giveu rubbish appliances. sometimes they claim those appliances are free. no such thing as a free lunch i am afraid - if they havent loaded everything else they will be charging u to fit their free appliance and this will often be a ridiculous amount that covers the cost of their free product. See an independant local guy or try one of these:

You still need to be trade. In a downturn I wonder how strict branches are being with that policy if you say the right things. The prices still aren't set in stone and I'm sure the best prices are reserved for familiar faces.
We're getting really good prices right now - bought two kitchens so far this year, virtually all the joinery for an entire house and looking at a third kitchen. Perhaps I could start a little cottage business selling Howdens kitchens at a small mark up to MSErs :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
