thanks for the reply bagand96.i am not looking to profit from thomson but it is unfair that i have lost a full days wage through no fault of my own. surely thomson must be responsible if their own plane is unable to fly due to a fault.

Unfortunately I don't think so, and not in the eyes of any regulations either. The alternative is perhaps fly the aircraft knowing its faulty?

I say that tongue in cheek; but it is what it boils down to really. Aircraft have to be serviceable to operate. Thomson would neither have planned nor wanted the aircraft to have a technical problem, it would have caused them a great deal of headaches and cost them a small fortune.

Some argue that airlines are completely responsible for any time their aircraft have tech problems. Either way, they are extremely complicated machines, and as with all machinery, things will go wrong now and again, unplanned, when you least want them. Comparing it to your car breaking down is definately not the best way for Thomsom representatives to respond to you're complaint, but it is, on some level, a comparable situation.

I know it is incredibly frustrating for you, and indeed you have lost out on a days earnings. I've been in a similar situation myself, although my employer was very understanding (after proving it with the letter from the airline).

my employer unfortunatley has a business to run so i cant expect them to pay me for something thats not their fault. nobody expects or wants any airline to fly or attempt to fly with technical faults.i am not trying to say thomson planned or wanted the plane to be inoperable. but at the end of the day its their plane and their responsibility. as for my car breaking! that would be my responsibility, i own it and i maintain it, if it develops a technical fault then its down to me to sort it out, and put up with the inconvenience, whatever the reason for the flight delay it caused my self and lots of others 1 big headache. we were allowed 1 phone call for 2 mins per party booking. how were all my party travelling with me supposed to inform every 1. instead we are all looking at sky high mobile phone bills. again thanks to thomsons!

I cant put any technical info on this but what I will say is that you cant claim anything for the loss of earnings, I see this kind of complaint alot with flights being delayed

I would accept this and move on

    Sorry

thanks for the information.but i know from posting the same question on other forums that some tour operaters have paid out for flight delays including loss of earnings and phone calls when they have been given written proof.

I think this will be a delay situation and not a cancellation, especially seeing as the communication from Thomson states delay.

OP, have you got an answer to this yet? If the flight you eventually returned on would have run anyway, it definitely counts as a cancellation, but if it took only you lot it was probably technically a delay. Don't rely on just the flight number (the same flight can operate two days running) - perhaps contact the airport you returned to and find out from their data lists?

thanks omelette, havnt had chance to find anything out today, think it will be the weekend before i have time to sit down and try and deal with it.the hotel they put us in was full with around 300 people in the same position as myself, that were due to return on the same flight as me, they were all on the same flight home as myself the next day. so i suppose thomson will class it as a delay. even though it took off almost 19 hours after due departure. thanks again
  • Hello jhe,

I had a similar problem with Thomson last year. My flight back to Birmingham was delayed by 12 hours and we were dumped at the airport at two in the morning with no accommodation offered and no means of getting home.

I'm still writing to Thomson's who refuse to consider any form of compensation. I think they should at least have offered a hotel room in Birmingham. So, 10 months later, I'm no further on!

Good luck - do hope you get something sorted out.

    All the best,
    Felicity
