Hi. I'm going to be getting a cycle carrier for my 02 Focus and will probably need a lighting board. I'm just wondering where it would plug in for power and how it would be wired? I've looked in the car manual but couldn't see anything useful.

They are usually installed by vehicle electricians, via the wiring harness in the boot.

They would no doubt fit a plug and socket arrangement.

if you have a tow bar fitted with electrics them plug it in there, if not you will need it wired in as suggested above.

Sounds like it would be a hassle and probably expensive :(

no it shouldnt be, half an hour to an hour max would see a towbar socket fitted in the boot.

Why bother - most people carrying bikes don't bother and seem happy obscuring the rear lights;)

However if you put a socket in the boot how are you going to get the cable outside? A towbar mounted socket would do it but would probably cost about £100 fitted. Try a towbar fitter.
  • its easy to do

all you need is a cheap multi meter or haynes maunal

the plug on a lead and connectors

ive done all my cars and the electrics will cost you £15 max and take no more than 40 mins

my 406 had a port to plug the lighting electrics into, a doddle!
