Best route to SW France avoiding Paris and toll roads please

Options
Hi, we're driving down to SW France next month from Calais to Argeles, (on the Med, very close to Spanish border).

We'd like to know of a route which definitely avoids Paris and preferably avoids toll motorways (MSE rules :D). We're confident driving "on the wrong side" and we're happy to go on a motorway to get round a town, when they're usually free anyway.

Looking at the map, it seems there are a number of choices so we'd like to pick your brains about the best route to choose. We'll be stopping overnight somewhere along the way but it doesn't matter where.

Thanks for any advice.

    Try
Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, chartres, Orleans, Chateroux, Limoges Brives, Cahors, toulouse and across to Perpignan.
We used this 30 years ago before all motorways were built.
We now camp in the herault and cross to Clermont Ferrand where the M-way is free all the way to the med

Ive used various routes(10 years ago)found each route took similar time, there A roads were quite slow compared with ours.I would suggest that you pick a route that has something interesting along the way for you.Dont be tempted to leave your vehicle with luggage especially in the forests around Paris reknowned for breakins esp weekends
