My dogs boosters are now due (she is about 4 yrs old), she has had the boosters each year and is up to date.
We have moved house and travelling to the old vets is a bit far just for injections so I contacted a company called 'Jabs' - they said she will only need the leptospirosis jab so only £15 as the DHPPi (distemper etc) jab lasts for 3 years.
However, the vets where she has been previously vaccinated at have said she needs both Lepto. and DHPPi injections???
Quite confused....any ideas
Thanks

It depends on what brand of vaccine your dog has had in the past. We will do the distemper, parvo and infectious hepatitis(adenovirus) every 3 years but the parainfluenza and leptospira need doing every year. Different brands have different intervals so we need to know what you had before. We would also need to know what vaccine your dog has had for the past few years to know what stage in the cycle you are at. BTW, who are "Jabs"? The only link I could find was talking about human vaccines.0

Just took my dog for his first yearly booster and he got the full one but vet said that next one would be for lepto and he wont get another full one for 3 years. So if i have sussed it right he wont get a full one until age 4ish so your vets seem to working like mine0

After a bit of phoning around I believe that my dog only needs the lepto vaccine as the DHPPi has now been cleared regarding lasting 3 years so will only cost £15 tomorrow for the one jab.
Sue: I have been given the same info as you today - they said my vet should inform me of this but when I spoke to them today to ask if the DHPPi is needed every year they said it is recommended but did not say it is needed guess they can't afford to lose the money
Snowman: Jabs are a company based in Blackpool - heard them advertised on local radio and heard a few people say they have used them - found number on yellow pages website - think they just do jabs, booked in with their vet tom.0 -
According to the official data sheets for UK licensed vaccines, there are currently no UK vaccines brands that say you only need a lepto vaccine each year (certainly none described as DHPPi). Some say give everything and the rest say give a parainfluenza vaccine as well as lepto. Vanguard 7 is the closest which says that annual vaccination is recommended but that a vet may undertake a risk-benefit analysis and based on serological testing (blood sample) may decide that the parainfluenza vaccine will last 3 years but that will depend on area and individual dog. Around here we see plenty of kennel cough so we would advise parainfluenza & lepto each year, although we do distemper, parvo and infectious hepatitis every 3 years.
Still can't find any proper details about Jabs apart from Yellow Pages. They aren't on the RCVS directory of practices or any other vet directory. I assume they are very new.0 -

Well going tomorrow and will have a chat with their vet about it all but they certainly were not trying to make me pay more than I needed to thats for sure - just need to ask about the parainfluenza as you mention this is usually done each year
Think Jabs is new as only recently starting hearing their adverts on our local radio.0
