Job seekers allowance - could I get it?

I was reading a thread on here and it got me thinking. I am currently looking for work, might I be able to get JSA? I haven't worked for 5 years, I have been a SAHM getting carers allowance for my son, but that has now stopped, so I have been looking for work, I have been applying for jobs, and had a few interviews, is it worth my while trying to see if I could get JSA? or would they just laugh at me for thinking about it? I guess I have always assumed that as one half of a married couple with the other half working that I wouldn't be able to get anything like that. That money would take some of the pressure off, and stop me feeling quite so bad when I get that phone call to tell me that I haven't got the job.
I am looking for part-time work, would that make a difference? It doesn't say on the Job Centre website, only that you must be looking for work.
Many thanks
Sue

You won't get contributions-based JSA if you haven't worked for 5 years, you also won't get "means tested" or income-based JSA if OH is working full-time.

Oh well, it was worth while asking, shame though, it would have been useful. I will just have to keep on applying for jobs.

You can claim JSA as long as you work under 16 hours and your partner works under 24 hours a week. Im working 10hours and my partners unemployed, the job centre have just knocked my earnings off our allowence.0
