How to stop flyers/menus and leaflets through the door?

  • You'll just need to ring the newspaper office for the local free paper and they'll take you off delivery. If you do that rather than telling the paperboy then you'll stay off delivery until someone requests the address to be put back on - if you told the paperboy then when there's someone new they'll probably start delivery to you again.

The leaflets pay for the delivery so it can't be either/or :)

My kids delivered free papers. There was one house they were told not to deliver to. They also had houses where there was a notice up No junk mail/leaflets etc. They didn't deliver to them either.
Some junk mail is delivered by the postal service too...

  • Thing is, if someone complains about not getting their free paper at a house that has a no junk mail sign up there's a possibility they could get in trouble for not doing it.

Put your paper recycling bin by the door with a sign "Please put leaflets in here".

Seriously you can't stop the best you can do is if you catch them pushing the leaflet through grab it, open the door and put it in your paper recycling box by the doorstep in front of them.

Oh and the postman now delivers junk as well.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

If there is an address on them send them back freepost, that would soon stop them.

Even if there was a sign up, theres a change noone will pay attention to it

a lot of the delivery people dont speak or read good english. not a racist comment, its a fact. i used to have a note on the door in my old flat and they still came through and used to chase the delivery person with the leaflet and discovered they didnt speak a word of english.

If the VFD people phone and ask someone if they have had their free paper then the householder should tell them they have such a sign up...if they don't the VFD (verified free distribution) people will contact the delivery person who can then inform the VFD people that there is a sign up requesting no junk mail...
Leaflets aren't subject to this anyway, unless delivered with the paper.

  • They can be, as it can be a solus distribution, and the leaflet company could phone up themselves. VFD themselves don't phone up, they request backcheck information from the newspaper company.

Also, people do complain even if they have a sign up! Bit silly, if you ask me, but that's what some people are like :)

The postman delivering junk really bothers me. For the past two years I've signed up to the Royal Mail thing where they will stop delivering junk with your post (can't remember what it's called, possibly opt out, and has to be renewed each year). Despite this I still receive junk with my post. Everything form Virgin Media Leaflets, Pizza Hut Menus to Sun Life junk.

I've started to collect all this in a black bin bag, and hope to drop it all back off at our it all local sorting office soon.

Ah, so that's where all that carp comes from!

Sometimes they are lazy and leave a pile of it in the communal hallway, like the residents are going to select and collect there own "personalised" junk mail.
