Bank account with cash card for 16 year old

Hi
Trying to find a bank account for my 16 year old who is about to start a Saturday job. Would ideally require a cash machine card, but no overdraft facility at all!! I think any money earned would be out within a few weeks so the higher interest rates for savers wouldn't really apply.
Have tried to find one but most seem either aimed at very young children or aimed at adults (have to be over 18 to apply).
Any ideas? Am I just looking in the wrong places?

A normal current account will do, however this won't stop them from going overdrawn. Although being under 18 the person is not allowed to be overdrawn so any charges the bank put on will be waivered.
HSBC = Visa Debit Card

It does state on that, that they cannot go overdrawn. I am not sure what that account is like, when I banked with HSBC at that age I just got a normal current account
Lloyds = Visa Debit Card

No charges for this account.
I bank and have current accounts with the above 2. I prefer HSBCs online banking but haven't had any trouble with either banks.0 -
From personal experience, Halifax Card Cash is the best. Visa Electron card (so no transactions taking him overdrawn would be allowed) and interest paid on balances. BUT I think they have changed the conditions since my day and you can't use the counter service anymore.
Alternatively, try Nationwide's Flex Account with a cash card for a similiar deal, or Yorkshire Building Societies Freedom account which is savings account with cashcard and allows bank credits into it.0 -
Hi, thank you both for the replies. I'll have a look at the ones mentioned, see which one I think will be best. Need to get it sorted quickly as she starts this month so they'll be wanting her details.
See which one pays any interest, although she'll never have much in there to earn interest! :rolleyes:0 -
Hi
Maybe an idea to open account at the same place you bank as this would make it easier for ID etc if your child has none.
I work at barclays and they have a good Young persons account 16-19. This automatically changes to an adult or student account when they reach 18.

hsbc basic bank account or halifax easycash, p.s you wont get any interest on a current account worth shouting about.
personally im a big fan of hsbc.0
