My BT line has been taken over without my permission

I live in a house shared with some other people.

I have a BT line and an O2 broadband both in my name. I was not in the UK in the last two months, and when I came back last week, I found my BT line has been taken over by my housemate. What BT has done is just to send me a letter noticing me that my line would be transferred to another company - Sky and they waited for my response until 27, March. Obviously, I could not see this letter in time so that my landline was taken over as planned.

I feel very frustrated as O2 has warned me that they would close my account within 10 days if I could not reactivate my BT line, but this seems impossible cuz BT told me that normally this reactivation would take 11 working days and they could not transfer my line back cuz the landline number has changed.

I don't know what to do with BT but have written a complaint letter to them and hope it would work somehow. Do I need to report this to the police and expedite solving the problem? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Thanks a lot.

Has someone forged your signature or been pretending to be you? The reason a ask is my mom was conned into changing from BT to the post office, the BT line is in my dads name. I rang the post office telling them this and hinted phoning the police. Soon solved.

Clearly, forgery and/or fraud have occurred. Both are criminal (police) matters.

However, I'd suggest you PM BT Company Representative and ask for contact details of BT's criminal investigations department before you contact your local police though - they may work quicker.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

isnt it still technically a BT line, Sky would log a fault request with BT Openzone to fix the line anyway if it went down?

am not saying its correct whats happened, just saying that I cant see why you cant have Sky Line Rental, and O2 broadband?

If it was just a line transfer from BT to Sky, I cant see why the number would change....unless your fraudulent housemate asked for a new number.....

    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!

Isn't your housemate the one who can shed some light on this situation?

    Thank you all.

I have typed a lot but they have gone when I submitted.......
Long story short, my O2 broadband is still working and the landline too. Sky lied to my new housemate that BT line at my address is inactive so that my neighbour took the landline by Sky. Interestingly, he cancelled this line before it could be activated by Sky. So, technecally, my line could have remained unaffected. But the truth is that tel no. has changed to the one Sky wanted to provide. And BT still claim that my line is working on my number. I have sent a complaint letter to BT to ask my number back. Is there anything I can do to solve this quickly? Thanks a lot.
