I recently had to call my insurance company out to report that my large concrete garage had caught fire as a result of my neighbours property catching fire. The damage was extensive to say the least. To be honest the insurance company in question have acted really well and been very helpful,:p I have a few concerns about how to proceed with my claim. Concerns such as my policy states no limits for house hold items, I’ve personally estimate the replacement cost for all of my items at being about £30000. Yes I know this seems like a lot, however I have a large family and we have purchased many toys and designer clothes for them over the years, which where being stored in the garage at the time. The insurance company have asked my to inventory all of my items that got damaged or burnt. I’ve now done this, and taken pictures etc, they offer an old for new policy, so if anyone has advice upon dealing with case like this I’d like to hear from them for some guidance etc.
I’m just concerned that my insurance company might start knocking down the price of my estimates, even thought I’ve got pictures of the items, plus, the items have now been skipped and are scheduled to be removed very soon.
Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Which Insurer are you with as they are likely to have a limit of between £2000 and £5000 for contents in out buildings (Some don't have a limit but its rare).
By the way you will have new for old for your contents but not for clothing and linen which they will take into account wear and tear on.
Can you let us know which Insurer you are with0 -
If you keep £30,000 worth of items in your garage you should really tell your insurers.
Of course if you are not covered, there is always the option of claiming against your neighbour's insurers, although for this to succeed you will have to establish that the fire was caused by negligence.0 -
Contents in a garage are usually limited to a set amount with the bulk of insurers so you may find the "unlimited" contents doesnt apply to garages/sheds.
Clothing is usually excluded from new for old section.
TBH, I wouls expect the insurer to appoint a loss adjuster if a claim was submitted for a fire where the garage had £30k of designer clothes and toys. I'd expect some toys in a garage but not designer clothes.0
