If it was -£11.34 (i.e. they paid you!) I'd consider it but with the price of DVD recorders these days even £11.34 seems to way too much for a video.

There are loads of cheap VHS tapes around so why not?
  • With video tapes readily available for next to nothing at Car boot sales a brand new player at this price is a great buy.

Keep the kids amused for hours for very little cash!

DVD Recorders are a passing fad in fact if you research market data they have already had their day and are only useful comined with either a harddrive or vcr player.
VCR will still live on and will out live stand alone dvd recorders.

And can you qualify that statement please?
With Blu ray and HDDVD just around the corner then maybe dvd recorders will evolve but a passing fad? I don't think so and as for VCR's being here to stay if that's the case then why are Dixon's no longer even bothering to sell them? Analogue recording is all but dead and buried VHS and audio cassette tapes will soon be assigned to the memory and museums

That's not to say that £11.34 for a video recorder isn't a damn good bargain though and thanks to OP :T

Same can be said for DVDs though and the picture/audio quality is far superior.

Anyway, didn't mean to detract from the bargain, which this appears to be to some. :)

As title says from Tesco (store)

Do you know if it's just in your store they have these? Was it marked at that price on the SEL? We are looking for one for the school I work in as they've got lots of videos for the kids of watch at wet lunchtimes etc.
    If I had known then what I know now . . .

You have actually hit the nail on the head, there are so many different formats for DVD already and with new formats about to enter the market the customer has become confused and has since been put off bying dvd recorders, We are still selling volume VCR recorders or combi units.

Just because Dixons have stopped selling them doesnt stop making them popular too many people have have vcr tapes and for kids its ideal. When Dixons said it was stopping selling them 18months ago it was a PR stunt and went horribly wrong for them, Dixons have now back tracked and are now SELLING VCR units again, So much for Dixons trying to nail the coffin shut!!!. :rotfl:

Dixons are no longer the market leading force they used to be and have been surpassed by Currys (same group). You are more likely to see the demise of Dixons before the VCR

The only thing that will actually stop VCRs is when the goverment turn off the analogue signal as i cannot see any manufacturer being bothered about installing freeview into vcr units on mass production

It isn't a bargain if it's completely useless. That is exactly why Tesco is trying to get rid of it.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • surely it is worth buying as a spare for the day they are no longer availiable and the kids wants to watch one of the 100's of video tapes amassed over the years - we can't all afford to buy replacement DVD's for all our stuff on video or have the technical knowhow to transfer everything onto disc ourselves - so if you don't want one its not a bargain but if you still heavily rely on tapes then its a corker thank you to the OP i'm getting one anyway and mine will cost £ 10.20 with discount as i work for the almighty Mr T.

And you thing that this BUSH VCR will survive to the day when they are no longer available??? Also if you have the technical knowhow to play your VCR on these things then you'll definitely know how to copy your videos onto DVD.
