Married quarters

My nephew is getting married in August. He and his new wife will start married life in married quarters in Surrey.
I am not familier with Army life, and when other nephews/neices have married we have bought them a specific piece of furniture of their choice.
Here is the stupid question..........Are married quarters fully furnished and (from those of you that know) will this be a suitable gift ......and if it is there a specific thing that it is usually best to have of your own that we can contribute to/suggest?
We will spend £300-£400.
Thank you

Married quarters vary from unfurnished - part furnished - fully furnished depending upon what you choose to have. However, things like white goods, electricals and kitchen wares are not provided, so perhaps this might be an idea?0

Even if the quarter is furnished, it's not what you'd call 'good' furniture, so I think thye'd really appreciate something nice, they'll then be able to take it with them wherever they go. It's a lovely idea.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0

I think its a lovely idea. You have the choice to "RENT" furniture from the army, anything you choose to have, e.g a spare bed, or a wardrobe for the kids room, gets added to your rent payment.
I think all MQ's provide a cooker? Am I right?
I would just do as normal, and I must say it is a very nice gesture.0 -
Cookers are provided, all other white goods arent so if I was in their position I would ask for a fridge or washing machine as a gift. If they didnt want to go furnished with the forces then they could pick up cheap stuff from places like Argos and Ikea.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500

Hi, I have found that we always have a cooker as standard, anything else ie bed, drawers etc you can opt for and pay a little extra, otherwise provide your own furniture which is what we have done feels more like homebut I appreciate newly weds aren't always flushed with cash!:)

When we got married we had nothing, so we had the Army furniture, it is not very nice but came in handy, as we had more cash we bought different things and got the Army to take away their stuff.
They will need a washing machine and fridge, as these are not provided.
The lampshades are pretty dire, when supplied. A Sofa or bed would be a good gift or Ikea vouchers.0 -
apparently they don't supply lampshades anymore!0

the timing was perfect for me to find this thread. My soon to be Sil went into basic training on Monday and the wedding is set for his return. I wondered what they would need and, as usual found the answer here !!! What did I do before I was bright enough to come on here lolClearing the junk to travel light
