My Laptop

Dear all,
Just trying to work out where to next with this problem?
I put my laptop in for repair in Feb 09, after the fan starting failing. The shop explained that it would have to be sent away for repair. Not a problem esp as i was told £65, cheaper than a new one.
On returning to pick up the laptop i was told the shop had be robbed and my laptop along with a number of other had been taken.
The robbery has been reported to the Police and an investigation has commenced. No items have been recovered according to the Police.
The shop have so far failed to compensate me and are insisting that the police will reocover the items. Something the police have stated is unlikely and are hinting that it may be a inside job.
It has been over 3 weeks since the robbery.
My home insurance company have told me that i am not covered and to claim from the shop, however it seems that they are possibly not insured etc and if it was an inside job unlikey to compensate me.
So where do I go from here? what steps i can i take against the shop owners ( its an independant retailer)?
