Hi All!. Just this evening I purchased home insurance cover (buildings and contents) as my current buildings policy was due to expire in the next few days. Problem is my contents cover is with a seperate organisation and does not end until the summer. Do I have to phone my current contents provider to cancel the remaining 3-4 months of my policy or is it okay to let it run out whilst the new combined policy is active? Or is that illegal?

If you have 2 policies running then your problem may be should you need to claim that each insurer will insist that the other is liable.

If allowed, a scenario that often happens when 2 policies are active at the same time, but not sure if it's applicable to household insurance, is that each policy will pay out only half of the final claim amount.

Best to either cancel the existing one or see if you can defer the contents cover on the new one to start when the existing one runs out.
