thank you . would you recommend a 4 speed or 8 speed. would the higher speed effect the playing back in my dvd, as my laptop records dvd- and my player records dvd+ but will play both..0

the speed will make no difference to how the dvds would play. One thing to remember is dvd/rw means that they can be formatted and rewritten whereas dvd/r can only be written once. Most dvd/rw discs tend to have slower write speeds than dvd/r.
I use usually whatever discs are cheaper
8 speed is nice if you do a lot of copying as the time is less but you can expect to pay more for them than 4 speed Welcome, rogerramjet.

Another thing to consider is the burn speed of your dvd burner. If it only writes at 4 speed then that is the fastest it will write regardless of how fast the dvd's will burn at.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

how do i find out the burn speed?0

I find the easiest way is to go to 'Control panel', 'System', 'Hardware', 'Device manager' , 'DVD/CD-Rom Drives' and that will tell you the make and model of the DVD burner.
Then google it and that will tell you the burn speed for various formats . (Unless you have the original paperwork which will, of course, make it much easier)I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
