Black bedroom carpet vs. white fluffy kittens!!

When we moved into our house, I had the really 'bright' idea, of a black carpet in our bedroom. Which was fine until recently, when my ex partner passed away, and we (for the sake of my 2 eldest.....his children) took on his 8 month old WHITE FLUFFY kittens!!
No amount of daily hoovering gets the hairs off the carpet...it just looks worse by the day, so I wondered if any of you had any marvellous ideas. I coud use one of those sticky roller things, but think I would need to replace the rolls after about 10 seconds hehe.

Oh how totaly gorgeous and cute... I'd change the carpet.. or keep the kittens out of the bedroom and ignore the fluff that creeps in anyway!

I had similar problems with my adopted short haired Persian cat.

She was sort of sandy coloured. The carpet and sofa were green.

I thought, briefly, of some sort of green-food-colouring-dunk-the-moggy incident....but in the end I valued my skin as it was - unscratched!

I ended up buying a new cat coloured carpet. I actually took along a handful of cat hair and rubbed it into various samples of rug in the showroom. Until the sales assistant came up to me...:rotfl:
  • We use the bedroom door and close it at night, but the darn Ginger Monster knows how to open it and get it, blessed thing he is. The current Lady Freda got her from cat Rescue, but the balzers do not want him back. To get the Ginger Minge's hairs up, we just use the dyson once a week, and before hand, use an old stiff hair brush to dislodge the hairs. The hoover should quickly remove the cat from the house though

hehe I am desperately trying to keep them out of the bedrooms, little munchkins keep sneaking past when I'm not looking!!
They are cute though.....just got to save the pennies up to get them both spayed, as neither of them have been!!

Yes these 2 have mastered the art of pouncing off the bannister onto the door handle...and presto...they are in!!
Dipping them in food colouring....why oh why did I not think of that before?! :D

I have a tom who has a lovely fluffy long haired white belly! We have taken his hair all around the world with us - it is hard not to!

Funny, he also possesses the escapology gene and is particularly drawn to guests wearing dark trousers!

I would really recommend getting a beige carpet for the bedroom, but in the meantime, I have tried the following:

    - Ensure you brush the cat regularly to limit the shedding problem which will keep it down.
    - Get a wipe on/wipe off fluff remover brush for clothes.
    - Buy a rinsable sticky roller brush for furniture.
    - If these fail, use cheap parcel tape to lift off the hair from furniture/carpet.
    - Next time you need a new vacuum I would recommend the Miele cat & dog.
    - Rename them to sooty and sweep and buy a bottle of black hair colourant(!not really!)
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I have a black cat in a light coloured house - I hear you!

I find not having carpets helps, but failing that a hoover with high suction and to get the deep ingrained fluff out a rubber glove rubbed in circles over the carpet brings the fluff up brilliantly!

Those rubber bristled brushes are also great at getting the ingrained hairs out.

I've got a similar problem with two black cats and beige carpet throughout the house, I agree with the rubber brush idea, it lifts the hair up really well. Even turning the brush setting on on your hoover head and really rubbing it across the carpet can help, but a hoover specifically for pet hairs is a good idea too. My mum has got five cats (rescued) and she finds the Vax one brilliant and it's got a built in carpet cleaner too in case there are any 'accidents'. Regular grooming of the kittens will help a lot too, it gets the loose hair off of them before it ends up on the carpet!!

As an aside I really advocate getting them spayed/neutered as soon as possible, there are far too many unwanted cats and kittens in the world - if you are strugling to pay for this your local RSPCA/PDSA centre should be able to help towards the cost, especially if you explain the situation of having to take them on from your partner.
