appologies if this has been asked before but does anyone please know what those 008 numbers are?

    00 is the code used from the UK when dialling an international number.

    If you mean, "What are these 00 800 xxx xxxx numbers?", they're international freephone numbers (officially known as [size=-1]Universal International Freephone Numbers)[/size].

    One example of their extensive use is IBM (click).
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Thanks Heinz, my friend and I have bothe found this kind of number on our phone recently, didn't want to call back as I hadn't a clue what it could be.
