Hi hope someone can help me as i'm no computer whizz.
When i switch computer on it keeps going through startup until just before windows screen would appear , it then just keeps stopping & going through startup all over again , it's now taking me nearly an hour just to get it to start up .
Computer is running windows xp & is a time machine with plenty of ram etc.
Any help greatly appreciated.

There is possibly a corrupt file on the hard drive that XP needs in order to boot. Have you tried booting in safe mode ? An alternative that I tried with success on a disk that failed, even in safe mode, was to transfer the problem drive to another PC and have that back up critical data. Then let this PC sort out disk corruption problems with the hard disk using scandisk. This strategy worked. The only detail missing was the source of the problem that caused XP not to boot. Perhaps it is written in a log file somewhere.
Alternatively there may be a hardware explaination for the failure to boot. A bootable CDROM or floppy could test the hardware without the requirement of a potentially corrupt operating system.

try safe mode by hitting the F8 key as the PC boots up
you will get this screen
try the "Last Known Good" option to see if it will boot up ok
Did you get any Rescue disks with your computer ??guy here selling them on Ebay (not me !!!!)
