in Credit cards
I have 3 MBNA Cards which I have had for nearly 12 years now. Gradually they have been reining my credit limits which are now £15,000, £12,400 and, £9600. All 3 card were about 16.9% APR but have jumped to 34.9% over the last few months. The last one to increase had some balance on it so I tooked the offered option to freeze the APR when my current 0% deal ends in May till the balance of about £8800 is paid off, and then close the account. I really have made use of their 0% deals over the years and paid off the balance when the deal ends without incuring any interest. So I will be down to 2 MBNA cards soon when 1 is cancelled.
In the current climate and seeing as they have bumped up my interest rates for no reason, are they likely to be overing anymore 0% 9 or 12 month BT anymore? If not I rather shut my remaing 2 account and open some new ones. I do have 3 other crdit cards with more normal APR so I dont think I will be able to apply for any more without shutting the MBNA ones down as I only earn arounf £39000, and my current available credit on my credit cards is closer to £60000. I should have a clear credit record, no missed payment, have a mortgage, paid of personal loans etc..
Any thoughts?
Cheers

I posted something similar to this further up the page before I noticed this. MBNA have been cutting my credit limits since turning me down for a third card earlier in the year.
I earn a similar amount to you and have the same available credit so it looks like the bean counters have told them to cut their exposure even on people with good payment records.0 -
Thanks, I figured they were cutting back, I guess they must have built up some bad debt along the way. They haven't cut any of my limits yet, just bumped up the APR which doest bother me too much as I have been able to move money around to cover it. I only reson to hold on to MBNA cards is if they keep offering more 0% BT offers, and they now need to be for around 12months to make sense since they increased there BT fee to 4%.
I know that if I apply for a new card without closing down some of the otheres I will get a pitiful credit limit to start with. I guess if MBNA start cutting limits then it will make my decision easier.0 -
I'm in middle of 0% on purchases (December to July 2009) which is as good to me as I don't have anything outstanding on any other card at the moment.
They have not touched my limits either.0 -
they keep offering me 0% deals but only for purchases....they also offer 2.9% on BTs at the moment but I've had to ask for those and they won't shift to 0% on them. For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070
