Car Insurance NCB Rant

During my 2008 policy renewal I had accumulated 8 years of NCB which then I changed provider to Liverpool Victoria. My renewal notice from the previous years insurance (2007) from Norwich Union stated a maximum proof of no claims up to 5 years (which i think is max for most insurers), therefore when i took out the policy with LV i sent them the proof of no claims up from Norwich Union and also the previous two years proof (i.e 6 and 7). Once i sent this to LV I followed up with a phone call stating that I should have 8 years NCB and was told that this would be suffice to prove it.

Anyhow, come 2009 and my policy is up for renewal (i should have 9 years NCB now). LV has sent my renewal forms however stating a max NCB of 5 years. I've been getting some qoutes online and I can get it cheaper if its 9years NCB as oppose to 5. I get on the phone to LV to see about getting proof for the 9 years and I'm told that altough they provide upto 9 years proof of no claims, I can only get a max of 6 years as my previous insurers proof only stated max 5 even though I had proof for years 6 and 7. They said that altough I had said 8 in my qoute they noticed that my previous years insurance stated max 5 so they 'downgraded' me to 5 years NCB. I had a long chat with their call centre and they weren;t willing to budge even though I had a chat with the 'team leader' and going to send me proof of the 6 years. I'm just peeved off that I;ve effectively lost 3 years NCB which could of saved me some cash. From now on I'm going to get written proof at each renewal stating my NCB.
