Blown speakers, Easy to fit/upgrade?

After a late night drive back from filming a surgical procedure at the weekend, I put on some loud tunes to help me keep alert and cranked it up and consequently have blown two speakers

Is it easy to get after market upgrades that will replace the existing speakers without any modifications?

I can spend up to £200, I just want some decent sounds, not fill the boot up with speakers and do a Max Power impression.

Depends largely on the installation location and what type of car it is. Pioneer do a range of "custom fit" speakers intended to replace OEM speakers.
  • £200 will get you top of the range speakers, depending on the car you have/age of it you might even get away with replacing them yourself, (using existing wiring in the car and merely replacing the actual speaker itself) as anewman said, Pioneer are market leaders in this department. :)

aswell as pioneer you could also find a good speaker like jbl and use audioleads adaptor plates to help fit them.
    ...work permit granted!
  • I'd be more inclined to suspect a cheap power amplifier that went into clipping. Its actually very difficult to 'blow' speakers with too much power.
  • goto a scrappy and find something the same size but what looks a bit beefier, practice on a car the same as yours to check they will fit

If you do decide to replace your speakers with aftermarket ones don't forget to inform your insurance co.:D
