Hi everyone,

My 1996 Saab 900 has got a problem with dashboard lights - it always had this problem, ever since I bought it but it doesn't bother me. However it is for sale now and I am wondering how big deal it is either to repair it or how much should I discount the car for this problem when it comes down to haggling about the price.

It is quite funny problem, because the light is mostly off, but when I drive over high speed bump or something, it comes on for a while...
However when it's telling me "check the oil" or "check the screenwash" - that light works at all times, whether the dashboard as such is on or off...

Anyone has any idea how big problems/how much work involved it is to repair this?

Thank you
Any

sounds like a bad connection somewhere, does the light come on when you bang the dash board? if so it would indicate the bad connection to be behind the dash, get it out and have a look for any corroded wires or dry solder joints.

Have you got the "Black Panel" mode switched on?

That switches off all instrument lights unless it requires communication.

It sounds a simple enough task to check the connections...

The reality if getting a dash out is far more complicated.
I would flog it but say the dash lights are playing up.

Trim never goes back on poroperly, it always leaves some kind of rattle behind.

that all depends on what tools you use and how skilled you are i suppose.

Thank you all guys for your messages.
Yes, the lights come back on when you bang the dash board.
That is exactly what I was worried about - that taking the dash out will be too complicated/requiring a lot of time (which makes it expensive)... :-((
