Flour quality/price

Tescos Value Plain Flour 1.5kg = 27p

McDougalls Plain Flour 1.5kg = 77p
Bero Plain Flour 1.5kg = 77p

Is the 50p difference really solely because of the brand name or is there a difference in quality? I try to get McDougalls on bogof so have never tried the value before.

I find the value is fine, but is a bit more bitty, ie proberbley not quite as processed.

I use the value flour all the time and have never noticed a difference in the finished product if you know what I mean?

I have used the value flour for as long as I can rememebr, used to be resposible for the catering at a NT garden, no one ever complained, i do sieve it a couple of times but thats all, it works just as well as the expensive flour for me.

I use value flour all the time and it seems no difference to the most expensive kind.

I used value flour until I actually sieved a load for a cake. Normally I wouldn't bother but on this occasion I did. The last couple of cakes I had not been happy with so decided to try sieving to see if it made a difference. I was left with a load of "bits" in the sieve which I thought was actually in quite a high proportion to the amount of flour. I haven't used it since and have switched to Tesco own rather than a brand name but I would be reluctant to use value again.

Could you report back when you've done it please. I might just have had a bad batch so if no-one else gets the same result I would go back to trying it again.

I use Tesco Value flour too and haven't had any bother with it. My sieve is one of the big metal ones though so perhaps doesn't sieve it as finely as the smaller plastic mesh one I have. I'll give it a go with the smaller mesh one at some point and report back.

Yes thats what i meant by bits, i dont think its any thing to worry about its just not as finely milled, ie sme of the wheatgerm is still in there, if this does not appeal, then you just sieve it.
