While I do think you're right to work alongside your studies, and it's great you know how important having your own money is, I think this is a little extreme. You're 18! You should be out there enjoying your freedom, and you shouldn't have to miss out on all the fun stuff (parties, holidays, all that stuff) because you're working so much. There's plenty of time to work, believe me. I'm 23 and have been working full time for 2 years now... I love my job but I'd give anything to be 18 and carefree again!

True, but unless I work, I have no money to go out. :D
  • Bishbashdosh - Tesco Clubcard Vouchers can be used to travel with the various ferry companies. £10 in CCV equals to £40 in travel tokens. Just a thought.

Fair point! I just yearn for the teenage years... so few responsibilities, so much fun! Never mind!

Good for you. The fact that you are wanting to pay back your parents and are thinking about your finances shows you are responsible and mature.
Is there any chance of extra hours at the market where you already work?

We sell stuff on ebay sometimes and found it is a good way to make a few extra pounds. You do have to be 18 though unless you can get someone else to do it for you.
Also I have sold books (mainly text books) on Amazon.
Are you an early riser? What about a paper round? Do you have loads of DVD's CD's hanging around. Some folk make extra money by selling them on Moneymagpie. You don't get loads but every little bit helps. I can't do links sorry so Google it!

Can you wash cars walk dogs for neighbours?

    Best of luck.

Another idea, I have just cut the front grass and am exhausted!! Could you do this for your neighbours??
  • I saw a card in a shop window earlier, with words along the the line of " Man for hire", £10 an hour, walking dogs, mowing lawns, teaching basic computer skills, fixing things, housework and even cooking. Maybe you could do something along them things I'm sure there are plenty of people who need this type of help and can't do it themselves in these time short times (excuse!)
  • If your still looking for advice try going to business link and see how you can make your hobby into a business once more they even give you a business advisor :P
  • QueenBeruthiel - Thanks :D I'll have to start shopping in tescos then

magic57 - Thankyou for the kind words, I'm not an early riser if I'm honest, but there are very few night-time jobs around which i'd actually prefer. I think selling my textbooks is a great shout too, but i'll wait till the end of this school year first hehe. Most of my movies and music are downloaded from itunes unfortunately, so no hard copies to sell =\ however I've figured out that I can save up to a tenner a week from not buying music.

The gardening/dog walking is a maybe too, not many dogs round here but a few large-ish gardens.

I think the local papershop will be betting a man for hire advert as well, thanks for the suggestion cardiffforthefacup.

I'm not sure how exactly i can turn my hobby into a successful mini-business though, as I don't have the finance to buy the components to build computers so I'll have to ask for money up front, which even from me seems cheeky :P
