Mbna!!!

Good Morning Guys!!

I have put in for two claims to MBNA for PPI:

BMI (MBNA) Credit Card
Virgin (MBNA) Credit Card

I sent two seperate letters. For the BMI Card, I sent this to MBNA direct (Chester Business Park Address) on 04/03/2009. They wrote to me on 06/03/2009 and said they would issue a response in 28 days.
Then, on April 1st 2009 (hope its not an April Fools!) they wrote back to me stating that there investigations are taking longer than anticipated. They will issue a response by April 28th 2009. This is fine as they are keeping me updated.

However, for the Virgin Credit Card, I sent this to "The Service Quality Team" to Virgin directly, based in Norwich. This is because the website stated any complaints must be sent here. This was also sent on 04/03/2009. They wrote back to me stating that it is going to be passed onto MBNA on 13/03/2009 and stated they will issue a response within 28 days. Its coming up to the 28 day limit for this one - do I count the 28 days from the letter I sent, or from there follow up response sent on 13/03/2009?

I have tried calling them, but they said there Customer Relations team cannot be spoke to on the phone, instead I must write in.

Can I go to the FOS on this one? I would rather wait and deal with MBNA themselves, only because I know the FOS has a LONG waiting time!! Any kind of follow up letter I can send to them to chase this one?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers xx

Hi there they usually have 8 weeks to respond. I know they are very busy at the moment and there are delays which I know does not help you.

You would probably be best to give them a bit longer cause if it goes to FOS it can be a long wait e.g. around a year.

You could send them another letter by recorded delivery and see their response to that.

I remember reading on here somewhere that even after FOS upheld a complaint against MBNA it took them 3 months to refund the PPI and that has gone through FOS. If you can get it sorted at local level it would be better.

    Good Luck

  • I wrote to MBNA in Nov 08 and received a 28 day investigation letter followed quickly by a final response letter stating my request for refund was not valid and a copy of the original application form showing the box was ticked for PPI. Noticed the tick on the box was different to the others so sent a complaint to the FOS in Feb 09 on the grounds of mis-sold due to self employed. Received a couple of letters from FOS stating they were looking in to it then this month received a offer from MBNA via the FOS of a full refund of premiums, along with associated interest plus 8% interest as a full and final settlement. Have sent the settlement form off and am now just waiting for the refund.

The account was opened in 2000 and PPI was cancelled in 2009. The FOS have instructed MBNA to settle within 4 weeks. So I am just waiting to receive the money.

    Good luck with your claim.
