They run in the background and scan whenever anything is written or/and read. Its still recommended you perform a full scan once a week.
Spybot has a feature called teatimer which runs it the background it also has a immunize feature and a manual scan. The immunize stops you visiting bad websites this has to be manual and is a quick process. Make sure to update it once a week and immunize.0 -
OK, I'm now protected by a wireless router with NAT & SPI, Windows XP SP3 Firewall is enabled and I have Avira & Spybot installed. I also have A-Squared for periodic anti-spyware scans.
So hopefully I am well protected now! Thanks again to all for their advice.
My PC certainly runs a lot faster at start-up without McAfee. It used to be the case that it was pointless attempting to do anything for 10 minutes after start-up as the system ran like a dog.0
