Tenement hall-colour

We're looking at painting the main hall of our tenement block and we're wanting a nice light colour. At the moment we have a rather dark purple on half the wall then above that is white(which is discoloured with ages).
The purple was a bad paint job carried out a few years ago and the wall was never smoothed out prior to it being applied so it really needs fixed.
Anyway can anyone suggest a nice light colour gloss to use on the bottom half of the wall, or a colour i could even get colour matched? We're painting the white part with white Dulux light and space paint.
So far its been suggested to use a light grey but i'd rather not :-s

have you thought of getting some colour charts?
this is a personal choice - have you thought of vomit orange? You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.0 -
why not try a teracotta on the bottom just so it does not show up too much dirt, then with a cream or magnolia on the top satin finish on both so can be cleaned easy. hope it helps try it with the colour cards first.0
