How to check contents cover in place?

Hello (2 questions in a night!)

I am helping a neighbour to look after his affairs. He came to me frantic this morning saying he had a break in to his garage and some of his tools were taken.

To save a long story, there was no break in, he had moved the tools to the house! ( I have contacted his family as this is the latest in a string of "elderly moments"!)

Anyway, as part of the conversation, home insurance came up. He could show me house buildings insurance, but no contents insurance.

He is positive that he has contents cover with another provider and showed me the cheque stub. However he can't find his policy documents.

Is there anyway for him to check who his insurer is apart from contact his bank to see who cashed the cheque?

I know with cars there is a national database, does such a thing exist for house insurance?

Appreciate any advice!

Thanks
Bozo

There is no national database of home insurance.

Who do they Insure the buildings with as the contents may be with the same company especially if its a broker or CIS. I suspect it is not with a direct company if he is old and paying by cheque

Failing that speak to the bank to find who cashed the cheque.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

He tells me the contents company is different from the company proving buildings as their combined quote was too much! (Hes not lost it all yet!).

Thanks for the advice, looks like the bank is the only way, unless you or anyone else has any other suggestions?

    Thanks
