Need some help with my Galaxy ECU control unit
I have posted this question on a Ford Galaxy Owners forum, but haven't had a response yet, so was hoping someone here could help.
We have a 1997 Galaxy, 2.8v Ghia (130kish miles) and have had it almost 6 years.
The Tale - Last year, one of the engine mounts broke, but I could not drive it home. Brother in law got it home for me, parked it up on the driveway and left it. But the numpty left the passenger window open in the rains in winter and it was several days before we noticed. So, water filled footwell that I emptied, closed windows and got the engine mount (and other small issues) fixed at my garage (not cheap, cannot afford that again).
A while later, the internal lights start playing up then the central locking. After some internet searching I believed that it boiled down to a damaged ECU due to it swimming a few months before. About 2 months ago, the central locking system started to release the boot catch - which was not helpful going down the motorway, but it was then parked up on the driveway and not looked at for a few days. In which time the boot catch had opened, the boot lights left on and I now had a drained battery. Tried jumping the car, but it wouldn't work.
As I was looking at it yesterday (about to call a scrap car guy) a nice man in a tow truck spotted me under the bonnet, and helped me to jump start the car from his truck. It made a difference as the car started, all the lights worked AOK and the central locking did too. After 15mins of letting the engine run, I turned it off, left for 5 mins then tried again. No start - so I guess I need a new battery rather than a re-charge.
As I was on a roll..... I managed to get out the control box under the passenger seat. The motherboard inside is full of rust and white/blue stuff and is generally in a real mess. This is where I am stuck. I need a new one. Where on earth can I get a new one? Or get this one fixed? I have tried a couple of online breakers forms but not one has come back to me. I tried googling the part number (95VW 15K600 BC - I think and not the 7 MO 962 257 H number above it) but I come up with almost nothing in English. A google of Galaxy control boxes confused me. My garage is not helpful (as I am not spending money I guess) and I need a bit of help really.

you know the scrap guy you were about to call to come and take the car away? make the call and ask if he has a galaxy like yours and how much he wants for the ecu.
or alternatively go around the breakers and ask if they have a similar model to yours.
i done this yesterday for my summer project, got a good few bits and bobs for a tenner.
also take tools with you to get it out, they wont lend you tools....work permit granted!0 -
See - thats the sensible solution.
I wanted a sit on my bottom and the pixies do it solution. (LOL!)
I've got a local paper - will ring round tomorrow. Thanks for telling me the obvious I was stupidly blind too. (I'll wander off now and try not to be so stupid somewhere else...)0 -
the best sit on your ar£e soloution is to check ebay for someone breaking a car like yours, easy to check.
like this one.

Fords of that era are a bit peculiar to charge when they are completely flat.
Believe it or not you can jump start the thing and leave it ticking over for a week and it won't put a volt in the battery, but if you jump start it, then give the throttle a blip after turning on something like the side lights, that gives the sytem the needed 'impetus', it needs something to do almost and low and behold it'll charge up fine....sounds rubbish but i've had lots of experience of this in car compounds especially with Fords.
EDIT....do not have the doors shut and the keys in the ignition when you connect the jump leads, it will probably lock all the doors and the keys inside.0 -
also it will need more than 5 minute of running before it has enought charge to start0

Can I cry now or later??
Blue Hawk hasn't responded to my email - will try again.
4 scrap yards today, found 8 cars and everyone was full of water in the footwell, so that would render the ECU useless!
Lost out on a bid on ebay for one.
Just lost. I need a part!
Ah well. I think I will email Ford directly and ask them if there is another part number that could fit or a generic thing from somewhere. I can but try.
But thanks for all your suggestions.0
