New car on a really tight budget
My luck with my car has taken a turn for the worse, after spending £1200 on MOT, service, breaks and high pressure fuel rod, someone stole my car.
A five year old 206, according to Glasses guide and taking the middle valuation I could get £2000 ish.
Still have a car loan that I am paying off, bank loan not finance and I am trying to buy a house, so money is tight too say the least.
I am now not sure about what to do - I need a car, live on my own in very small village and 20 miles away from work, so ideas off bikes etc will be no good.
Need something reliable due to work mileage but finances are tight.
I don't need anything swish, in fact mainly an A to B type of car, small efficient, maybe diesel but reliable.
I am gutted about the theft of my car and absolutely mad about the £1200 I spent the week before getting it fixed.
I have maybe another 2 grand I can use from savings so maybe £4000 cash on the road - any thoughts anyone.
Also does anyone have any comments on how quickly my insurance company will payout, I have managed to borrow a car from work but likelihood is that I will only have it for two weeks or so.
Thanks

use te 2k you might get from insurance and buy something similar with a years mot on it, if you can afford to take money from savings then just use the insurance money....work permit granted!0

Car wise, get yourself something like a Hyundai accent or similar Korean car without the right badge.
They go for peanuts, but if you choose carefully and get one that's been owned and looked after by an older driver they can be very reliable and cheap transport.
Insurance...now's the time you find out whether the cheapest company was best unfortunately.
They will probably offer you a stupid amount first time, so reject it and get copies of adverts for cars similar to yours to back up the claim that you should get more. Don't expect them to be quick, they know you need the money desperately so they'll try and cajole you into accepting less.
