Program doesn't open in full screen

Someone I know is having probs with a program on their Win XP computer called 'Parish 2000'.
The window is centred but doesn't resize, and the 'maximise' option on the top right of the window is dimmed down. This means they can't use the program properly as half the data is not visible in the small window.
When right-clicking on the taskbar the maximise option is dimmed and when trying to resize by dragging edges of windows it won't change, although the cursor does change to a double-arrow.
Apparently things were fine until last week when someone else may have used the computer so possibly made a mistake with settings. They report the desktop icons may be a little bigger now but after I'd had a few tries I couldn't figure out how to resolve it. All other programs functioning properly.
Any ideas appreciated

sounds to me like someone has made the screen resolution to large for the screen go into screen options and set to a normal size - if you say which operrating system u use it will help if you dont know how to do it so that someone can help you. It sounds like its a simple job.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives.:j0

It's been sorted out now, so didn't get a chance to try ALT + Return but that's a useful shortcut to know about anyway, thanks
