Well I think it depends. For me I've only been married once and hopefully it will stay that way. I had 60 people to wedding and reception, and then more came in the evening for another do. We did go away on honeymoon too, with a £500 bank loan and a last minute deal to Majorca. 22 years on I still remember the day fondly and although I normally hate being the centre of attention you have to remember why you are getting married.

If it's just for the legal side, then just go to the registrars and do it. If it's a public declaration of your wish to be married and to be viewed together as a couple then a wedding with family and friends to share in the public display of affection.

Why not get married late afternoon say 4.30pm and then by the time the photos are taken it's just a buffet party for X number of guests. I went to one where it was a cold meat and salad buffet which you queued to get but sat down at tables in a formal manner and had speeches etc. Such a lovely relaxed day with all children invited as well and most people spent the evening sitting out in the grounds chatting.

Personnally, I'd go for number one, have a smaller do (less stress!) and a lovely honeymoon

    Option 1 please!
  • the first one, mainly because im having a small wedding and the party will be smallish.. though im pretty sure it'll go past the smallish part lol!

you two should go enjoy your time together in peace on holiday in the sun or wherever u like, thought taking family wouldnt be my perfect idea of a honeymoon (defeats the purpose) but each to their own.. and hopefully im sure you''ll come to a comprimise..

    good luck!

I think you should consider combining the two options. No big party ,but you really need some time alone with your hubby so a weekend away just for the two is important, especially when you already have children and I know that when you have a family time alone is a rare thing.Followed by a family holiday later.
Do you have someone who can look after the children for a night or two?
It doesnt have to be expensive,a weekend in a romantic bolt hole can be found from blakes country cottages or hoseasons very cheaply.
Or just have the wedding night or weekend alone in your own home. The kids go to stay at grandparents, aunties etc houses after the wedding. This option is FREE or very cheap at least. The only problem with honeymooning at home is that it may be too tempting just to spend the time doing housework or D.I.Y.instead of having couple time:rolleyes:.So get it all ready before you leave for the wedding, romantic hampers with everything you need for the weekend so no-one need to pop out for shopping, rose petals for the bed, smoochy cd,etc.takeaway menus so no-one has to cook, buy new fluffy robes and spend the whole weekend in and out of those;).

Have a small intimate wedding (service and meal afterwards for around 30 people) and then go away on a cracking honeymoon for a fortnight somewhere hot abroad for you and your family (so including your 3 kids)
    OR

Have the same wedding in the day and have a big party in the night - but no honeymoon/holiday? Well, maybe a weekend away, on our own, but int his country.

I like one of those ideas and OH likes the other.

We will compromise, we always do, but we won't have the money to do it all at the time we want it.

    What would you girls prefer??

If you dont mind one of the boys replying.....

    1st Option!!!!!!!! :j

When scoping out the wedding and associated costs, we started out with 100-150 guests. We costed this up and even with cutting costs it was .

After reviewing the guest list we decided to slash numbers to a maximum of 40, and spend the rest on us, e.g 3 week luxury trip to Thailand. :j

I dont feel guilty at all and am looking forward to a fantastic honeymoon.

Hi there, I am having a small wedding in December with 50 guests on the evening, we are having a honeymoon later on next year, when we can afford it and also to get Christmas out of the way. So Personally I woould do the second one. Although the weekend away sounds fab, Tiger x
