  • Hi, just came across this thread after looking to see what projections my policy had, took one out in 1998 and one in 2002. Started off paying in £50 then rising to £100 for the last 10 years. The first policy is due to mature next week and the money is being transferred as I type, not sure what the amount will be as didn't ask or had no correspondence of maturity value, just assumed I would get what I paid in plus bonuses which have been added every year. I have paid in £16,200. I will let you know when the money goes into the bank!

good luck Nursey15. i hope you will be pleased. especially as i read it that you will be paying £100/m into the second policy for another 4 years.
  • Hi my 15year sun life policy has just matured - I started it with £30permonth increasing by £6 per year becoming £60 from the 6th year until the end of the term.
I paid in £9720 - Projected value at 7.5% back then was £12,900 or 10% was £14,800. It matures next month at projected at £14,200..
Anyone any suggestions on what I should invest my £60 per month in for the next 15years?
  • Looks like i may well be seven years too late on this one and missed the bus somewhat. Due to laziness on my part rather than go looking through my file to find the address for this policy to send a change of beneficiaries request i came across forum after forum of problems i was oblivious too.
I took out this policy in October 2002 and therefore upon reading page after page of issues fall into the mis sold policy group, is this too late to be beneficial to me now? I have just completed my 11th year and as much as i could actually do with the policy making some cash, albeit it apparently small , it seems this is more than likely not to happen.
As i said i had no idea about all these issues, i clearly stupidly opened the policy with the birth of my son and left it without thinking about what would happen. Upon seeing these forums i have done the maths and stand to only be guaranteed just over £5000 from a £6500 investment.
Do i call, like many others and request the terminal amount currently? Call and ask what closing it now would give me? potentially quoted the mis selling of 02-04! or bite the bullet and hold on?
Once again very conflicting views from the various forums, most saying jump while you still have the chance, yet more recently i this thread its all been positive "keep it in" style comments.

Well, I received my maturity letter from Sun Life today and I'm glad I never decided to cash my 15 year Bonus Cashbuilder in (fortunately I never stumbled across this thread until recently). I started paying £15 a year in 1998, increasing by £3 a year for the first 5 years, until I paid £30 a month for the last 10 years. Received £100 back after first year and, in all, I have paid in £4,860.

The amount payable to me is £7,170.66, so, although I guess some people have lost out, I am actually pretty happy!!

Do you think you would have cashed in if you had found these threads earlier? Ultimately it worked out well for you in the long haul but as with so many others, with 5 years to go these threads have issued the seeds of doubt that questions whether to stick or twist.

trulys hasn't logged on since July so I don't think he will be answering you anytime soon. Also you shouldn't resurrect lots of old threads with duplicate posts, better to start a new one with specific points

Actually, I don't think I would have cashed in early if I had read this thread earlier, simply due to the fact that I wasn't really putting a large sum in each month. The yearly statements I received from AXA Sun Life gave me no reason to cash in early. Whatever I got back would have been more than if I hadn't taken out these policies in the first place because I simply wouldn't have saved the money otherwise. I still have a policy running until 2018 (I think), and I'm going to leave that to mature.

Maybe its like baking a cake: if you take it out to early it will sink in the middle, but if you leave it to cook for the full time, it should (fingers crossed) rise nicely :p
  • Hi All

Sorry to resurrect this thread (!)

I am long term travelling oversesas and have been unsuccessfully trying to contact Axa (Axa Sun Life) about two Life Assurance WP policies I hold with them. My understanding was that they were similar to a cashbuilder in that I began paying GBP10 per month rising to GBP20 for a 15 year term, the second policy began at a rising GBP15 per month, also for 15 years. One matured 30.10.2013 and the second matures 29.01.2019.

I have two issues- first, I need to advise them of an address change in UK and second, I need to ask them to direct pay into my bank account and NOT send a cheque by post because I am out of the country.

I have ascertained that Axa Sun Life became or sold/ moved policies to Friends Life and have contacted the via their FB page but have been informed that both my policy reference numbers cannot be found??

Can anyone please advise me of the best way forward with this? I am visiting UK for six weeks on 10th March.
    Thank you

Axa sold some business to friends and kept some, so your policies could be with either firm. Back in the day, both firms had a bunch of call centres, each of which would know about their own little chunk of the world whilst being entirely clueless about everything else their company does.

My advice: contact both companies giving as much info as you can to enable them to identify you. Insist their failure to find your business is treated as a complaint, as this will then get forwarded to a less clueless department in order to be assessed. Therein lies your best chance of somebody tracking down your money.

Needless to say, there may yet be some fun due to the change of address. In fairness to them, they need to protect their customers and therefore can't pay money to just anybody who gets in touch, so they will need to verify your identity.

    Hope this helps.
